Kalgoorlie to Esperance.

 Thursday 24/4/25.

After leaving the caravan park we went to Boulder, which is right next door to Kalgoorlie, to do our voting. There was no queue and we were in and out in no time.

We must always be travelling in May as for the last 2 Federal elections we have done an absentee vote - Broome, Broken Hill and now Boulder.

Then we checked out the Main Street of Boulder. There were lots of empty shops but the last business in each premises name was freshly painted above the 





We set off for Norseman and Esperance but this time we went via Coolgardie which is only small compared to Kalgoorlie.
As we drove south the rain became worse and the wind became stronger. At times we could feel the truck being blown sideways. On arriving in Esperance we went to a Bush Caravan Park out behind the town away from the beach, hoping to get out of the wind.  We were told there was only one site left and it was quite windy. Bob tried to call a motel to see if they had a spare room but as it was still school holidays so they didn’t. Then the man at the caravan park said he had a cancellation so we took that site which turned out to be very protected. The park had a cosy camp kitchen so we took advantage of that.
The next morning we drove into town and attended the 11am Anzac Day Service which was well done and had a good crowd of people attending.

This cenotaph was designed by the mothers in Esperance who lost the sons in WW1 and was 100 years old this Anzac Day.















Esperance on Anzac Day was pretty quiet so we checked out the local beaches and found a nice spot for lunch.
After lunch we drove to the lookout at the end of town and then went for a drive along the cliffs towards the west. The views and beaches were fabulous despite the weather being overcast.

We then returned to camp and had a very pleasant evening with only a few showers.

  Saturday 17/5/25. Day One. After stocking up on food we left Laverton travelling east. The first 60 klms were bitumen and then really well graded dirt. We thought this is pretty good and then we hit the corrugations and  they were pretty bad. We ended up travelling on the wrong side of the road to get a better ride. Even the road trains were doing this so you know it is a bad road. We stopped at a look out  and found fantastic views of the Giles Breakaway. Corrugated road. A good section of road. Wallabadah.

  Sunday- 16/3/25. This morning we had an unexpected visitor as we were packing up to leave camp. This morning we continued on our drive down the New England Highway. We stopped in Guyra for morning tea and almost opposite the park was the Guyra Motor Museum. So in we went. There was quite a range of cars from a Cadillac to a Volkswagen Beetle, Holdens, Toranas and Valiant Chargers just to name a few. Some were in excellent condition and others were works in progress. Unfortunately we both forgot to take some photos. After lunch we drove on, stopping in Bendemeer for lunch and arriving in Wallabadah at about 3.30 ish. This is the third time we have stopped here for the night as it is a short run the next day through to Mudgee. We always camp down near the creek on lovely green grass. Nearby is a memorial to all the people who arrived on the first fleet. Each ship has its own section with the names of those on board.. There is a picnic area under shade sails. Alice Springs to Winton QLD.

  Tuesday 27/5/25. This morning we woke to rain and as we was sitting out under the back awning eating our breakfast Barb was notified that there was a cancellation at the hospital for a CT scan in 30mins time. She caught a taxi to the hospital, had the scan and then caught a taxi back to the caravan park by about 10.30. We packed up in the rain ( what fun) and checked out. After getting a few things at the shops we headed north up the Stuart Highway towards Tennant Creek.  The rain just poured the whole way so we knew we couldn’t drive across the Plenty Highway (a dirt road) to Boulia and had to take the long way round through Tennant Creek and Mount Isa. The rain kept pouring. We called in to Barrow Creek where we had worked for 7 weeks when Kylie was a baby but it was too wet to get out of the car. We took these pictures out of the car window.
