Lara Wetlands to Brisbane.

Monday 2/6/25. We got away from camp about 9.15am which was pretty good as we had to fill up with water and do the loo. Despite the water being bore water, it tasted really nice and it didn’t have the sulphur smell. We drove to Blackall and found a park to have morning tea and then on to Tambo for lunch. We continued on to Morven and drove out to Gidgee’s Bush Camp about 1.2 klms out of town. It was a wonderful family run campground and everyone there were very friendly and full of information. The campground is a work in progress but they are off to a good start. This loo has a bit of a problem and is not in use!!!! The camp kitchen. The owner, Kylee is pretty good with the welder and her sculptures are dotted around the camp ground. An amazing tree. Tuesday 3/6/25. This morning we took the following pics before leaving for Chinchilla to meet up with one of Barb’s cousins. This is Kylee’s car that she decorated herself. We had a lovely evening with Frances and she cooked us a ro...

Saturday 31/5/25 This morning we filled up with fuel, bought some groceries and then went back to the Waltzing Matilda Centre Cafe for morning tea. We then headed off for Longreach where we stopped for lunch. Then onward to Barcaldine and then on towards Blackall. At the 28 klm mark we turned off the Highway and drove into the Lara Wetlands Farm Stay. This is a campground which surrounds a large waterhole with about 130 type of birds breeding in the area. We decided to stay 2 nights as we needed to stop and have a rest. We can thoroughly recommend this beautiful place and only chargers $35 per night for 2 people. There is a thermal pool for swimming. View towards the waterhole from the pool. The waterhole. Is he real? Another view of the waterhole. Children’s playground. An interesting drop loo !! Sunday 1/6/25. We had a very slow morning , we got out of bed at 9.00am. Just what we needed to do. First off we had a swim. This is the first time we have had a swim in an outdoor pool on th...

Tuesday 27/5/25. This morning we woke to rain and as we was sitting out under the back awning eating our breakfast Barb was notified that there was a cancellation at the hospital for a CT scan in 30mins time. She caught a taxi to the hospital, had the scan and then caught a taxi back to the caravan park by about 10.30. We packed up in the rain ( what fun) and checked out. After getting a few things at the shops we headed north up the Stuart Highway towards Tennant Creek.  The rain just poured the whole way so we knew we couldn’t drive across the Plenty Highway (a dirt road) to Boulia and had to take the long way round through Tennant Creek and Mount Isa. The rain kept pouring. We called in to Barrow Creek where we had worked for 7 weeks when Kylie was a baby but it was too wet to get out of the car. We took these pictures out of the car window. The Barrow Creek Hotel. The house in Barrow Creek where we lived looking very sad now. The Barrow Creek telegraph station. A very we...
